Packaging fulfils a very important task, especially in the food sector. It protects the food and guarantees that consumers can enjoy a safe, flawless product. At the same time, the use of resources and environmental aspects also play an important role when it comes to packaging. Mila takes great interest in the issue of packaging and our dedicated specialist group is always looking for available and actionable improvements. The aim is to improve packaging and to make it more sustainable, but at the same time to take account of valuable and non-negotiable guidelines and criteria such as food quality and conformity, product safety, shelf life and taste neutrality.
Initial product samples for even more sustainable packaging Yoghurt – K3 cup Mila was one of the first dairies to introduce the ‘three-component cup’ (K3) in 2012. It consists of three materials (components) that can be disposed of separately (cardboard, plastic, aluminium). The stability of the cardboard jacket, made of 100% recycled waste paper, means up to 30% less plastic can be used for the cup. The PS plastic and cardboard used for the K3 cup are 100% recyclable. Correct disposal is very important in order for the end consumer to make a positive contribution to the environment with the K3 cup. The following video explains how the K3 cup should be properly disposed of: “Longer lasting” hay milk box Mila has been using innovative packaging, consisting of more than 80% renewa-ble raw materials, for its "longer lasting" hay milk since 2019. The packaging paper is FSC® certified and the closure and coating are made from renewable raw materials (sugar polymers). The manufacture of this packaging produces up to 23% fewer CO2 emissions compared to a conventional Tetra Pak-UHT package.
