South Tyrol’s best milk comes from Selva dei Molini!

09.07.2025

High up at 1,600 meters above sea level, where the meadows are steep and the summers are short, lies the Wieselerhof – a traditional South Tyrolean mountain farm.

This is where it comes from: the best milk in South Tyrol. Every year, the South Tyrolean Alpine Dairy Association (Federazione Latterie Alto Adige) evaluates farms to determine which produce the highest quality milk and honors the best milk supplier at its general assembly. This year, the association has named Mila farmer Josef Holzer from Selva dei Molini as the best milk supplier in the region for 2024.

The joy on the Holzer family’s faces says it all. His wife Annamaria, son Daniel, and daughter Martina stand proudly by his side. On just two hectares and with only three Fleckvieh cows, Josef Holzer has succeeded for the second time in earning the title of “Best Milk Supplier 2024”.

His recipe for success? Simple – yet special:
“You need joy, and you have to treat the animals well – because nothing can be achieved through force,” explains Holzer.
