South Tyrol
South Tyrol is a
region of marked diversity: because it lies at a crossroads between different cultural regions, South Tyrol is and always has been moulded by exchange of experience. Today, most of its
lively customs and traditions bear witness to the region’s rich heritage.
North and South meet in South Tyrol’s colourful scenery:
Mediterranean fruit orchards and vineyards in the wide valleys juxtapose with
alpine landscapes of the Dolomite Mountains replete with pristine pastures below the glacial level. South Tyrol’s unique cultural landscape comes from this juxtaposition. Thanks to climatic perks like an estimated
300 sunny days a year and extremely
fertile soil, South Tyrol has been populated for millennia. Over the course of the centuries, a unique landscape has emerged; its preservation is of critical importance. South Tyrol’s nine
natural preserves and national parks contribute today to preserving the alluring unspoilt essence of the land. Many of South Tyrol’s more than 1,500 alpine pastures – which are archetypal for the region – lie in these protected areas.
We have the
3,500 committed alpine dairy farmers of the Mila and Senni base cooperatives to thank for this environment, so deserving of preservation. They cultivate the
meadows and alpine pastures of this sensitive ecosystem in harmony with nature, and produce
milk of the highest quality with care and
love.
This is why Mila can place the
South Tyrol quality seal on all its products. The seal is a guarantee of carefully regulated and GMO-free feed; species-appropriate husbandry and healthy livestock; and closely supervised milk production, processing and refinement – not only for yogurt, cheese and milk but also for mascarpone, butter and cream. South Tyrol’s quality seal demands these
strict standards in production and processing. In symbiosis, Mila is 100% committed to these standards – because it is a South Tyrol company, and because Mila cares about
protecting the unique landscape and culture heritage of its homeland.
