Respect for the Environment – Respect for South Tyrol
Being a major company in twenty-first century South Tyrol carries major ecological responsibilities. Mila contributes to the preservation of the South Tyrol’s traditional cultural landscape through
sustainable,
environmentally oriented business management. The ultimate goal is to protect the balance of nature for
future generations. Mila thus strives for ongoing reduction of the environmental impact caused by its products and production process: from the Alpine South Tyrolean dairy all the way to the sales counter.
Each year we rework our environmental policy in the form of an
annual Environmental Plan. For every Mila business activity, compliance with relevant environmental standards and regulations is only the first step. Above and beyond these fundamentals, Mila initiates and carries out numerous supplementary projects every year. The goal of a given project may be to
save resources such as electricity, natural gas and water. Another project might focus on avoiding waste or
reducing emissions, detergents and disinfectants.
In accordance with Milkon’s 2009 Environmental Plan, some of this year’s directives the company has issued to lessen its environmental impact are:
- Reduce phosphates in the detergents used in C.I.P. cleaning of plants and bottling machines by replacing several cleaning agents.
- Reduce emissions of exhaust gases from the Milkon fleet of vehicles. When purchasing new vehicles, Mila will give priority to low CO2 emission levels (<120g/km), low fuel consumption and low noise pollution.
- Reduce emissions of the transportation fleet. To this end, Milkon has lowered the standard height of the transport pallets it uses. This simple step allows the company to transport products like yoghurt in double layers.
- Prevent unnecessary heat loss by insulating hot water pipes.
